Merv passed away suddenly at Hamilton General Hospital on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Born in Owen Sound on April 5, 1950, Mervyn James McLean of Welland, formerly of Owen Sound, was in his 70th year.
Beloved husband and best friend for 44 years of Wendy (née Cruickshank) McLean. Loving father of Laura Breadner (Daryl) of Fonthill, Heather McLean (Mark Stoddart) of Uxbridge, and Ian McLean (Brooklynn) of Rockwood. Cherished Poppa of Luke, Claire and Emmy Breadner, Hayden and Henry Stoddart, and Kherington, Myer and Sullivan McLean.
Predeceased by his parents Wilmer and Jessie (née Crannie) McLean, his brother Bruce McLean, and his parents-in-law Don Cruickshank and Joan (née Fleming) Hawton.
Merv will be fondly remembered for his time in the grocery industry, working at A&P and Loblaws for 45 years. He was a faithful fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and in recent years he enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sports activities, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer, dance, gymnastics and cheerleading. Merv also loved to play golf and he was always good for telling a great story. In his retirement, he and Wendy were able to travel to many great destinations, including Disney, St. Lucia, Florida, Antigua, Aruba, Curaçao and a Caribbean Cruise with their dear friends Doug and Linda Barfoot.
At Merv’s request cremation is taking place. Due to the unfortunate circumstances regarding COVID-19, at a later date a celebration of Merv’s life will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492).
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Chapman House Hospice or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences can be forwarded by visiting Merv’s memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
