Obituary of Stephen Helliwell
It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our father, Stephen Helliwell, in his home on October 25th, 2019. Steve was born on October 25th, 1963 in Lancashire, England and had been adopted by two of the most loving parents. Shortly after his and his sister, Sue’s adoption, the family had packed up and moved to Hamilton, ON where they spent the vast majority of their youth. Steve was loved by many people. Everyone he met had always said what a good man he was and that he had a heart of gold. He was the kind of man whom would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation if you were in need. Even as children, dad always taught us to try to help those in need. Our father endured many hardships throughout his life, but always managed to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He had a very positive outlook and strived to succeed and overcome what life would throw at him. Even on his darkest day, he would do anything to put a smile on someone’s face. Steve always cherished his family and friends. His favorite memories in his later years were of his grandkids, Mela, Chase and Emma. He also always loved his karaoke. Steven always thought he had the voice of an angel, and after a few drinks; we would sometimes agree. He would often go down to “the buckett“ in Southampton for his karaoke nights and spent his night singing Bon Jovi songs. Steve was predeceased by his mother, Norah and father, Frank. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Jamie) and Samantha. Also his grandchildren Mela, Chase and Emma will gravely miss him. They always held a special place in his heart and his in theirs. He will also be missed by his beloved sister, Susan and his nephews, Darcy and Darrel. Our family would like to thank the staff from the Hannah Walker Place in Owen Sound. Our father loved the staff there and truly enjoyed his days at work thanks to you. We are very thankful for everyone who kept checking in on him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details are not set in stone but if you would like to attend, please let us know in the condolences box so we can contact you with details. Also our family would like to request that if anyone would like to donate, we would like any donations to go to the food bank on his behalf, as he always tried to help others in need. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family on-line at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
