He was sadly predeceased by his grandson, Travis Wilson, 2015. As a young husband and father in the 50’s, Bob faced a few years when jobs were scarce and paid poorly. He worked days, nights and weekends to try to keep his young family fed and warm. He never forgot the kindness of others who helped his family through some difficult days, and was proud that years later, he too was able to assist others in times of trouble. In the 70’s Bob met Laila and moved from Woodstock to Owen Sound, where he started the first store focused on home heating. It was a time when there was a shortage of oil and home heating fuel was costly. Bob knew homeowners needed to keep their families warm and was inspired to open The Fyre Place business in downtown Owen Sound, now known as the Fyre Place & Patio Shop in Springmount. At 91 he used modern technology to stay connected to the business, deriving satisfaction in creative business ideas and interactions with people. He never fully retired.
