Obituary of Donald Johnstone
It is with deep sorrow that his family announces the sudden passing of Donald Rae Johnstone on Monday, August 27th, 2018, at the University Hospital in London, in his 86th year. He is survived by Helen, his wife for over 64 years, daughters Carrie and Jennifer, son David, and his much loved daughter-in-law Nicole. He was predeceased by his first son Donald. Bringing much joy to Don were his grandchildren Greg and his great helpers and entertainers Caleb and Thomas. Don was a caring, loyal and loving friend, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of two. Over the years he served on the Executive of Owen Sound Minor Hockey and the local Silver Stick Hockey Tournaments. His main sports love was basketball, a game in which he excelled during his years at the OSCVI where he was the first to score 40 points in a single game. In later years Don helped start the “Silver C’s” – a new, local group for retired men. This club brought him much pleasure and the opportunity to make new friends. For this, the family is very grateful. Don also served on various boards of Georgian Shores United Church (formerly Division Street). He was a kind and good man who never knowingly hurt another human being. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Following Don’s expressed wish there will be no visitation or formal funeral service. Cremation has taken place. An informal reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion (North Atlantic Room), 1450 - 2nd Avenue West, Owen Sound, on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Bring stories and smiles. Arrangements are under the guidance of the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 - 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 519-376-7492. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Messages of condolence may be made to the family on-line at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
