Obituary of Thomas Moran
Thomas Francis Moran passed peacefully at the Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 in his 85th year. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 60 years, his sons, John (Christine), of Guelph, Tom, of Kitchener, Bill (Kerolyn), of Kemble, Arthur, of Spring Park and his daughter, Trish (Kevin) Reed, of Toronto. Proud grandfather of Morgan, Spencer, Hilliary, Jill, Patrick, Jaclyn, Taylor, Matt and Art and great-grandfather of Kieran. Predeceased by his sister, Helen. Tom was born on September 7th, 1927 in Timmins, Ontario. He spent many years working for his father in the dry cleaning business. During these years, he joined the Militia and received his commission in the Algonquin Regiment (Royal Canadian Armoured Corps) and eventually rose to the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. A major career shift into the investment business led to his transfer to Owen Sound as branch manager of Midland-Doherty Ltd. Tom was active in the St. Mary’s Church choir and was a 4th Degree Knight, an Ordinary Member of Branch #6 of the Royal Canadian Legion and was a member of the riding association of the Liberal Party of Canada. He was an avid golfer, a passion that he instilled into all of his sons. Tom took up curling on moving to Owen Sound and was a member of both the Bluewater and Grey Granite curling clubs.
Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K – 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 554 – 15th Street East, Owen Sound, on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. with Father David Reilander officiating. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #6 will hold a Memorial Service at the Funeral Home on Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. A Vigil Service will also be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund as your expression of sympathy.
