David Gillies

Following a blessed and beautiful life, we sadly announce the death of David Angus Gillies of Owen Sound, in his 61st year. Dave will be dearly missed by his wife of 34 years, Mary Gillies (nee Hogendoorn), their daughter, Amanda Gillies (Brett Dowell), his mother, Elizabeth Gillies and his siblings, Mary Gillies and John Gillies (Lee).  Dave will also be profoundly missed by his many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, his dear friends and his many colleagues at Hydro One. Dave was born and raised in Bognor to Elizabeth Gillies and the late William Gillies.  He had a long and fulfilling 36 year career at Hydro One ending as a superintendent. He was widely respected by his colleagues and was considered a trusted mentor and friend both inside and outside the office. Dave was always striving to help those around him reach their potential and advance their own careers.  In his community, Dave was an active volunteer and found great happiness in helping those around him, spending time with his family and friends, fishing, golfing and the game of softball. Everyone that met Dave was instantly touched by his kind heart, warm personality, great hugs, and most of all his incredible sense of humour.  His smile and vibrant personally filled every room he entered. To many, he was considered a great friend. With Dave's passing, a bright light has gone out of our lives, but he will always be remembered in our hearts through the stories we share.  Dave would not want us to mourn his loss, but rather be grateful for the time and laughs we have shared together. The family would like to thank the staff at the Owen Sound Oncology Clinic and Dr. Huff for their compassionate and exceptional care.

The family will receive friends at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 - 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario (519-376-7492) on Friday, June 16th, 2017 from 1-5 p.m.  A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 865- 2nd Ave. West, Owen Sound, on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at 11a.m. officiated by Rev. Dana Benson. An interment will be held at a later date at McLean’s Cemetery, Bognor.
